We finally went to the Old Warsaw Polish Buffet in Harwood Heights on the border of Chicago. I've been wanting to go here for a while since it's a neon-lighted monstrosity on busy Harlem and Lawrence. And I love Polish buffets. It was a festive Saturday night. Very busy, with lots of neon and of course the buffet line. There was a dance floor with records and CDs hung up from the ceiling. A Polish band with keyboards, drums, and female singer. Natty background music for eating, and some people and kids danced. Cool atmosphere, open until midnight on Sat. I could totally hang out here and even dance. 15$ for all you can eat. Sawa's Old Warsaw in Broadview may be better quality, but this buffet was bigger. New pate-ish stuff I hadn't had before, tripe soup, and lovely desserts, including paczkis for Fat Tuesday and this marzipan roll I've been eyeing in Polish bakeries forever. Great cream puffs. Definitely will come again on a Saturday night to chill. This is the kind of place my friends and I would've loved in college and come to to hang out and dance in ironic tacky-cheesy-coolness. This is the real Chicago. Pic of Wilson with band and video of the muzak. Enjoy.
